The Spirit of Excellence Americorps Program
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engages more than 50,000 Americans every year to meet educational, public safety, environmental, and human service needs.

The Spirit of Excellence AmeriCorps Program was first funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service in 2000. The program recruits part-time “members” who commit to a minimum of 900 hours of service over a one-year period. Members serve as one-on-one tutors providing supplemental academic assistance to children in the Guilford County school system. In addition, members recruit volunteers for BCDI-G, and facilitate and participate in community events and other service projects. AmeriCorps members also benefit from trainings provided throughout the service year designed to promote personal development and a lifelong commitment to a strong ethic of service and civic responsibility.

The Black Child Development Institute's Spirit of Excellence AmeriCorps program welcomes all applicants who meet these qualifications, have a sincere desire to help children, and are committed to community service.
