Annual Black History Quiz Bowl

“Buds of Promise: Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise. I rise. I rise."

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the 28th Annual Black History Quiz Bowl! This year our theme is Buds of Promise. We believe that each participant in this year’s quiz bowl is standing on the unique culture, heritage, and promises of our African ancestors. It is with this promise, that we create a better today, and invest in our shared tomorrow.  Through our young people, tomorrow we will harvest buds of promise, producing the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders!

The Black Child Development Institute of Greensboro, Inc. annually sponsors the Black History Quiz Bowl in an effort to share the rich history, heritage and culture of African Americans with children, youth and families.  Formulated to be a friendly competition among middle school and high school aged youth, the Annual Black History Quiz Bowl provides the opportunity to engage the community in supporting the efforts of youngsters as they gain significant knowledge which will encourage further study.

Each year middle and high school students from local schools, churches and community organizations form teams that study from an extensive resource packet, prepared by a hand selected team by BCDI-G.  This resource packet contains a myriad of information on the rich culture, heritage and accomplishments of Africans and African Americans and allows students to build their knowledge, boost their self esteem, and teach them the value of team work.
