Summer Leadership and 2017 Photos
The 2017 Literacy and Leadership Program (LLP) was a great success! Eligible participants were returning scholars from the last two years of BCDI-G's Freedom School summer program, as well as students enrolled in BCDI-G's 2016-2017 Tutoring and Afterschool Programs.
June 19, 2017 - August 4, 2017
For the past 7 years, BCDI-G has offered a literacy-based summer enrichment program! The 2017 program may have had a new name, but our focus on helping your children (those currently enrolled in GCS's 1st - 8th grades) combat summer reading slide and learn to truly enjoy reading remains the same! “Summer Slide” is the term used when children fall behind over the summer due to insufficient access to academic resources. Our goal is to provide a quality summer program that includes high quality literacy enrichment and parent/family involvement to support your children and show them the importance of education!

Thanks to a partnership with New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the 65 students served in BCDI-G’s 2017 Literacy and Leadership Program not only combatted the effects of summer slide, but also engaged in leadership development, afternoon enrichment activities, and weekly field trips! Thanks also to Commmunities in Schools of Greater Greensboro for providing exceptional instructors for our afternoon activities! We also were fortunate to have an abundance of engaging volunteers called Read Aloud Guests who came out every morning to read stories to our participants!

"I liked the books, the activities, and the field trips.""I liked Harambee the most because we're all together and it's a sight to see!"
